Merchandisers still have to hold product at code temperature (≤41°F for TCS refrigerated items; frozen for freezers) even with glass doors opening all day — NSF/ANSI 7. Interior lighting and shelving must be cleanable.

A commercial merchandiser is built to hold ≤41°F even with doors cycling all day — that's the difference from a residential glass-door fridge. For alcohol-only display, some jurisdictions are more lenient, but a true merchandiser holds food-safe temps.
