General safety
- Steamers hold live steam and hot water — open the door slowly and stand clear to let steam vent before reaching in, and wear heat-resistant gloves; steam burns are severe. Drain and overflow water can briefly reach about 212°F (100°C).
- Never operate with a clogged overflow pipe — it can force too much hot water into the compartment and scald whoever opens the door.
- Descaler and deliming chemicals are corrosive. Wear gloves and safety goggles, keep them off skin, eyes, and food-contact surfaces, delime only on an empty unit, and complete the rinse/flush before cooking. Wash thoroughly after handling.
- Use only the manufacturer-approved descaler (e.g., Cleveland DISSOLVE 106174) and never substitute an unapproved caustic acid — the wrong chemical can damage the generator and void the warranty.
- Do not use a water jet or pressure washer to clean a steamer — it can damage the machine.
- Anything involving the boiler/steam generator internals, gas supply or burner, high-voltage heating elements/contactors, water solenoid valves, level/pressure controls, or safety limits (hi-limit) is for a qualified/authorized service technician — do not open, bypass, or bridge these components.
- If you smell gas near a gas steamer, shut off the manual gas valve, ventilate, don't operate electrical switches, and call a qualified technician or the gas supplier.
- Before deliming behind the port, replacing a gasket, or servicing, turn the unit off, shut off the water, and disconnect power (or switch off the breaker); on gas units shut off the gas.
- Water quality is the owner's responsibility — running a steamer on untreated hard water causes scale, corrosion, and premature failure and can void the warranty; provide the manufacturer-specified filtration/treatment and keep the unit level.
- Clean up water leaks promptly to avoid slips, and keep the floor drain clear and air-gapped per plumbing code.
