Ice Capacity (lb/day)

lb/day ice: Ice production is rated in pounds of ice made per 24 hours (lb/day), measured under standard test conditions. It's the headline spec for ice machines. Real-world output drops as air and water temperatures rise, so nameplate lb/day is a best-case figure.

Why it matters when buying

Size the machine to your peak daily ice demand plus a margin, then size the bin to bridge peaks. Because output falls in hot kitchens, buy for your actual ambient and incoming-water temperature, not the lab rating — undersizing is the most common ice-machine mistake.

How to read it on a spec sheet

Manufacturers publish lb/day at two conditions (e.g., 70°F air / 50°F water and 90°F/70°F). Use the figure closest to your kitchen. Separate the head-unit production rating from the bin's storage capacity — they're different numbers.
