BK Resources SVT-8424 — Work Table with Open Base & Undershelf, 84"W x 24"D, 18-ga 430 stainless steel

Our read

At $441.99 list, the BK Resources SVT-8424 is a 18-gauge T-430 table — an economical 430 table for lighter or drier use. Of the 12 models we list at this size, it ranks #9 by price.

The BK Resources SVT-8424 is a 84″×24″ undershelf commercial stainless work table built with a 18-gauge 430 stainless top. The 18-gauge top is suited to light-to-medium and budget-conscious prep, and its 430 alloy trims cost for drier stations. An undershelf in stainless adds a second surface for pans and smallwares. At 84″ wide it gives a long prep run that serves several cooks at once. It is NSF listed and backed by a 1 year warranty.

Buying considerations

Match the top gauge to the workload — 18-gauge for light prep, 16 for daily commercial use, 14 for heavy chopping and mounted equipment — and choose 304 stainless for food-contact corrosion resistance. Pick an open base for airflow and a trash-can gap, a cabinet base for lockable storage, or casters for a mobile station. Browse all work tables →

What gauge & steel type actually mean

Three things separate a $170 table from a $1,300 one — and sellers use the words loosely, so here's the plain version:

Gauge = thickness lower = thicker

14 ga heaviest · 16 ga standard commercial · 18 ga light-duty. Counter-intuitive: a lower number means thicker steel and more dent resistance. Heavy daily prep wants 16 (or 14); light/occasional use is fine on 18.

Steel type = corrosion 304 = best

304 (a.k.a. "18/8") resists rust and food acids and is non-magnetic — the standard for wet, salty kitchens. 430 is cheaper and magnetic but rusts sooner where moisture sits. For a dishroom or wet line, choose 304.

Base = legs & shelf stainless vs galv

A stainless base won't rust anywhere; a galvanized (zinc-coated steel) base is cheaper and fine away from standing water, but corrodes near floor drains and wet zones. The top is usually stainless either way — the base is where brands cut cost.

Rule of thumb: busy wet line → 16 ga / 304 / stainless base. Dry storage or light use → save with 18 ga / 430 / galvanized base.

Health-department & code relevance NSF/ANSI 2

Food-prep surfaces must be smooth, non-toxic, corrosion-resistant and cleanable (FDA Food Code 4-101.11) and, in practice, NSF/ANSI 2 listed — which is why commercial kitchens use stainless work tables, not home furniture. A non-NSF table can fail plan review. See what your state & county require →

Freight economics — a real line item

Heavy stainless ships freight, and it adds up. Most manufacturers waive freight above an order threshold, which creates a consolidation incentive: sourcing your table, sink, and shelving from one line can cross the free-freight minimum and eliminate hundreds in shipping — where splitting the order across brands can incur freight on each shipment. Weigh total landed cost, not just retail price, and ask each brand for its free-freight minimum.

Frequently asked

How to clean stainless steel prep table?
Wipe with warm soapy water or a stainless cleaner, always with the grain. Skip steel wool and chlorine cleaners — they pit 430 and can mark 304.
How much is a stainless steel prep table?
The BK Resources SVT-8424 runs about $442–$483 at the online dealers we track. Retail price is the typical online dealer price for this exact model, from the retailers we track. Prices change and exclude freight/tax.
What is a sandwich prep table?
The BK Resources SVT-8424 is a 18-gauge T-430 commercial work table, 24" deep x 84" side-to-side (long).
Is a stainless work table NSF certified?
For food-contact use, health departments expect NSF/ANSI 2 (FDA Food Code 4-101.11). Every table here qualifies; a non-NSF table can fail plan review.
Is it welded or knock-down?
Most economy/mid tables (BK SVT/VTT lines) ship knock-down — legs bolt on, flat-pack, cheaper. Premium/heavy-duty lines are welded (stronger, ships assembled).
